I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was staying near Savatthi, in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery. Now at that time the young wife of a certain wanderer was pregnant and on the verge of delivery. So she said to the wanderer, "Go get some oil for my delivery."

Như vậy tôi nghe: Một thời Thế Tôn ở Sàvatthi, tại Jetavana, khu vườn ông Anàthapindika. Lúc bấy giờ, thanh nữ trẻ Bà-la-môn, vợ của một du sĩ có thai sắp sinh. Vợ của du sĩ ấy nói với du sĩ: - Này Bà-la-môn, hãy đi và đem dầu về. Tôi cần dùng khi sanh con!

When this was said, the wanderer said to her, "But where can I get any oil?"

Khi được nói vậy, du sĩ ngoại đạo nói với nữ du sĩ: - Ở đâu, ta có thể đem dầu về cho nàng?

A second time, she said to him, "Go get some oil for my delivery."

Lần thứ hai, nữ du sĩ nói với du sĩ: - Này Bà-la-môn, hãy đi và đem dầu về. Tôi cần dùng khi sanh con!

A second time, he said to her, "But where can I get any oil?"

Lần thứ hai du sĩ nói với nữ du sĩ: - Ở đâu, ta có thể đem dầu về cho nàng?

A third time, she said to him, "Go get some oil for my delivery."

Lần thứ ba, nữ du sĩ nói với du sĩ: - Này Bà-la-môn, hãy đi và đem dầu về. Tôi cần dùng khi sanh con!

Now at that time at the storehouse of King Pasenadi Kosala they were giving priests and contemplatives as much oil or ghee as they needed to drink, but not to take away. So the thought occurred to the wanderer, "At present at the storehouse of King Pasenadi Kosala they are giving priests and contemplatives as much oil or ghee as they need to drink, but not to take away. Suppose, having gone there, I were to drink as much oil as I need and, on returning home, were to vomit it up to use at the delivery?"

Lúc bấy giờ, tại một kho của vua Pasenadi nước Kosala, một Sa-môn hay Bà-la-môn có thể uống bơ hay dầu cho đến thỏa thích, nhưng không được mang đi. Người du sĩ ấy suy nghĩ: "Tại một kho của vua Pasenadi nước Kosala... không được mang đi. Vậy ta hãy đi đến nhà kho của vua Pasnadi nước Kosala, uống dầu cho đến thỏa thích, sau khi về đến nhà, mửa dầu ấy ra và ta cho nữ du sĩ dùng khi sanh con ".

So, having gone to the storehouse of King Pasenadi Kosala, he drink as much oil as he needed but, on returning home, was unable to bring it up or pass it down. So he rolled back and forth, suffering from pains that were piercing, racking, and agonizing. Then early in the morning the Blessed One, having put on his robes and carrying his bowl and outer robe, went into Savatthi for alms. He saw the wanderer rolling back and forth, suffering from pains that were piercing, racking, and agonizing,

Rồi du sĩ ấy đi đến nhà kho của vua Pasenadi nước Kosala, uống dầu cho đến thỏa thích, sau khi về nhà không có thể mửa lên hay mửa xuống; có cảm thọ khổ đau, nhói đau, đau khốc liệt thống khổ, lăn lộn qua lại. Thế Tôn vào buổi sáng đắp y, cầm y bát, đi vào Sàvatthi để khất thực. Thế Tôn thấy người du sĩ ấy cảm thọ khổ đau, nhói đau khốc liệt, thống khổ, lăn lộn qua lại.

Then, on realizing the significance of that, the Blessed One on that occasion exclaimed:

Thế Tôn sau khi hiểu biết ý nghĩa này, ngay trong lúc ấy nói lên lời cảm hứng này:

How blissful it is, for one who has nothing.
	Those who are expert
	are people with nothing.
See how they suffer, those who have something,
	people bound in mind
	with people.

An lạc thay là người
Không có gì sở hữu,
Người chánh tri hiểu biết,
Không có gì sở hữu.
Hãy xem não hại thay,
Những ai có sở hữu,
Khiến cho con người này,
Bị trói buộc người khác.
