Monks, doctors give a purgative for warding off diseases caused by bile, diseases caused by phlegm, diseases caused by the internal wind property. There is a purging there; I don't say that there's not, but it sometimes succeeds and sometimes fails.

Các y sư, này các Tỷ-kheo, cho thuốc xổ để chận đứng các bệnh khởi lên từ mật, để chận đứng các bệnh khởi lên từ đàm, để chận đứng các bệnh khởi lên từ gió. Này các Tỷ-kheo, đây chỉ là thuốc xổ. Ta tuyên bố rằng đây không phải là không có, và này các Tỷ-kheo, thuốc xổ này có thành công và cũng có thất bại.

So I will teach you the noble purgative that always succeeds and never fails, a purgative whereby beings subject to birth are freed from birth; beings subject to aging are freed from aging; beings subject to death are freed from death; beings subject to sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress & despair are freed from sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress & despair. Listen & pay close attention. I will speak.

Và này các Tỷ-kheo, Ta sẽ thuyết và thuốc xổ các bậc Thánh, thuốc xổ này thành công, không có thất bại. Do nhân thuốc xổ này nên các chúng sanh bị sanh được giải thoát khỏi sanh ; các chúng sanh bị già được giải thoát khỏi già, các chúng sanh bị chết được giải thoát khỏi chết ; các chúng sanh bị sầu, bi, khổ, ưu, não được giải thoát khỏi sầu, bi, khổ, ưu, não. Hãy nghe và khéo tác ý, Ta sẽ nói.

-"As you say, lord,"
The monks responded

-"Thưa vâng, bạch Thế Tôn."
Các Tỷ-kheo ấy vâng đáp Thế Tôn.

The Blessed One said:
-"Now, what is the noble purgative that always succeeds and never fails, a purgative whereby beings subject to birth are freed from birth; beings subject to aging are freed from aging; beings subject to death are freed from death; beings subject to sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress & despair are freed from sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress & despair?"

Thế Tôn nói như sau :
-"Này các Tỷ-kheo, thế nào là thuốc xổ bậc Thánh, thuốc xổ này thành công không có thất bại. Do duyên thuốc xổ bậc Thánh này nên các chúng sanh bị sanh được giải thoát khỏi sanh ; các chúng sanh bị già được giải thoát khỏi già, các chúng sanh bị chết được giải thoát khỏi chết ; các chúng sanh bị sầu, bi, khổ, ưu, não được giải thoát khỏi sầu, bi, khổ, ưu, não ?"

In one who has right view, wrong view is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong view are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right view go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh kiến, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà kiến bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà kiến sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh kiến đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right resolve , wrong resolve is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong resolve are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right resolve go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh tư duy, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà tư duy bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà tư duy sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh tư duy đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right speech , wrong speech is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong speech are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right speech go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh ngữ, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà ngữ bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà ngữ sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh ngữ đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right action, wrong action is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong action are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right action go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh nghiệp, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà nghiệp bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà nghiệp sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh nghiệp đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right livelihood, wrong livelihood is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong livelihood are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right livelihood go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh mạng, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà mạng bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà mạng sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh mạng đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right effort , wrong effort is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong effort are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right effort go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh tinh tấn, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà tinh tấn bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà tinh tấn sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh tinh tấn đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right mindfulness, wrong mindfulness is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong mindfulness are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right mindfulness go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh niệm, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà niệm bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà niệm sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh niệm đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right concentration, wrong concentration is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong concentration are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right concentration go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh định, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà định bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà định sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh định đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right knowledge, wrong knowledge is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong knowledge are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on right knowledge go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh trí, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà trí bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà trí sanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh trí đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.

In one who has right release, wrong release is purged away, and the many evil, unskillful mental qualities that come into play in dependence on wrong release are purged away as well, while the many skillful mental qualities that depend on rightrelease go to the culmination of their development.

Với người có chánh giải thoát, này các Tỷ-kheo, tà giải thoát bị xổ ra. Các ác bất thiện pháp do duyên tà giải thoátsanh khởi nên các pháp ấy được xổ ra và các pháp thiện do duyên với chánh giải thoát đi đến viên mãn trong tu tập.
